Head of Financial Accounting & Reporting

As Head of Financial Accounting & Reporting in a game changing player of the European Insurance Industry, you will mainly focus on transformation and leadership and you will be responsible from A to Z for accounting and related project management of Athora Belgium and its subsidiaries under Belgian and International Regulation. You will be working closely with the different Athora entities in Europe to build and consolidate the new “Athora world”.

Main Tasks And Key Responsibilities

Accounting
Supervising all accounting processes, including Revenue, Technical, Investments, Cost Accounting, Fixed Assets Accounting, AP, AR, Broker accounts, Dispute Management, etc…
Responsible for the full coordination of month-end closing activities, resulting in a timely and accurate reporting of actual results in line with group guidelines and Group/NBB deadlines;
Perform key account reconciliations, justification, documentation;
Perform monthly analytical reviews to ensure transparency on the full balance sheet;
Set up and monitor accounting KPIs;
Oversee accounting daily operations and treasury;

Statutory and tax
Oversee tax accounting and statutory submissions for NBB as well as for the Group regulator;
Ensure full compliance with applicable regulations and deadlines (Income tax, VAT, statutory);
Ensure statutory fillings;
Responsible for successful completion of internal and external audits.

Processes and Internal Control
Document processes and procedures;
Challenge the status quo to ensure maximum efficiency and automation of transactional activities;
Ensure compliance with the existing group/local accounting policies;
Proactively identify and implement any remedies/improvements on procedures and internal controls to reinforce MCF compliance.

Business Support
Lead quantitative and qualitative analytical work that unlocks business insights and drives sound decision-making on key business issues;
Support the Controlling/Tax function by providing ad-hoc analysis and documentation.

Team & Project Management
Manage a team of Accountants, both experts and officers (8 people);
Identify areas of development to ensure updated knowledge on all Accounting technics and tools
Oversee various projects (SAP/Simcopr/Tagetik, IFRS 17)

Group involvement
Take a leading role in the integration of AB processes within the group
Participate into the creation of competence centers

Skills/Knowledge/Behaviour Required

Main Tasks and Key Responsibilities
Demonstrate capacity to engage and lead people during transformation phase
Accurate, Organized
Proactive and problem solver;
Able to influence, negotiate and resolve conflicts
You have a solid understanding of IFRS and Belgium general accounting procedures;
Knowledge of S2, IFRS17, NBB regulation
You have hedging and collateral management experience
You have a good knowledge of accounting software (SAP/Simcorp/Tagetik);
You are fluent in English and at least in either French or Dutch. German is an asset
Education/Experience
Degree in Accountancy/Tax, CPA preferred
Proven experience in banking or insurance business
Min 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
International and/or Transformation experience are asset
